20190102_135725.jpg 20190102_135317.jpg 20190102_135725.jpg We are in the middle of summer here in Aus. Temperatures up in the high 30s c and will get higher in a week or so. Keeping chickens cool is our main concern and mine love watermelon and grapes. There is an indent in the concrete on our patio so we fill it with water and put a giant ice block in it and they are loving it. We are also giving them electrolytes and have tons of shade. Never have to worry about the cold here just the heat.

At my place, the coop gets blasted with morning sun but I can't let the girls out in case the neighbourhood dogs take them. But, I was given a rechargeable camping fan and a misting system for Christmas. I'll be using both tomorrow with temp forecast 41 and a broody who won't get up to drink til the sun's going down. I've also got loads of big ice blocks ready to roll out and I got a blind from Bunnos. Hope the broody makes it through. Fingers crossed!

I have 2 Australorps. This is Nugget [youngest daughter's hen] & my alpha bird. They are about 10 months & have been laying for a while. Are yours laying yet? Comb & wattles usually darken & redden as they come onto the lay.
