Reggie kept me awake for ages last night. After saying she was well- it looks like she has strained her good leg. She is having a little trouble standing up so I have moved things around in her bed a bit to encourage her to stay sitting down.

I had a bit of a sleep in after getting up a few times in the middle of the niht- and when I finally got up for the day- at around 8.45am- I checked the eggs in the hatcher. No babies all was quite. Just the 3 pip holes I saw when I had turned off the lights the night before. I made a coffee and came to computer for a while- did some laundry...etc - and went to have another look. I couldnt belive I had a little one fully hatched!!! I am going to name that one Speedy as it unzipped and was out in less than two hours. Usually they will pip- then about 24 hours later you see them start to unzip- which can take 12 hours or so from when the second hole is punched through the shell. Speedy has set a new record for unzipping in my incubator. Photo to come later of the little one... Its as cute as all the others...but deserves recognition for the effort it put in to hatch.

Awww hope Reggie gets better soon, she's such a little fighter and so darn cute!. Your little duckling was very quick,but I have a good one too. A few weeks ago hubby puts his eggs into lockdown,about 3 hours later he looks into the incubator to check that all was well,and there was a chicken sitting there!!

3 days early,when we never expected it - we called that one "surprise"! It must have pipped before he put them into lockdown.
Anyway,love to see a pic of "Speedy"

Aw,Reggie is sooooo cute, how is she? Speedy looks adorable too,what big eyes she has!
I have had an exciting day, months ago I got the idea into my head that I would like some Malays, well,I've had SO much trouble getting the eggs that I thought someone up there was trying to tell me something i.e. don't get them! eggs no.1 produced nothing(the packaging and post was atrocious, eggs no 2 were the same, and eggs number 3(I'm determined!) finally produced 3 chicks today,I haven't said anything because I didn't want to jinx them. Anyway they're here finally. There were 6 eggs,2 were empty,and 4 had an embryo,the 4th one has not hatched,but I just candled it and thought that I could see slight movement,so I have put it back in the incubator(this is day 21),with crossed fingers

, but I have 3,for once I hope that I have a rooster - wouldn't 2 hens and a rooster be fantastic! Someone told me that the roos can grow to over a metre tall! Wow, good watchdog! I'll post a pic 2 moro when they are all standing properly.

Here are my 3 Musketeers! One is quite shy and kept hiding behing the other two - hard to believe how big they will grow. No sign of life from the fourth egg,I'll give it until tomorrow and hope !

Seriously, I live in the SUBURBS of South Australia and got attacked by a drop bear on my way to Uni.

what is a drop bear? and that is really neat that u live there i live in boring rainy washington in the US! and what the heck is veggimite is that some australian proverb "vegemite behing the ears" i am so clueless... anyways wuzup people?​

hee hee hee its so funny to hear stuff like this. im from north oz, Darwin to be exact. have just started out with a couple of chicks one ending up a rooster (GRRR) looking for a new home for him, NOT for consumption!! I want a replacement or two but there is only one or two places here that have chicks and most of the time they're commercial reds or blacks......looking for variety and postage to Darwin....can ANYONE help

Hi there newtochooks80 Not many people on here from around Darwin. I guess transport could be a bit of an issue for you up there too. I know of something you can try so will Pm you some details.

Welcome to BYC, I live down in Melbourne and have raised waterfowl for 26 years, Dont know too much about the birds without webbed feet - but I am learning.


Wooklet- they are gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! Makes me think I should pop some chook eggs in the bator when I am done with the ducks

Its been a while, ages actually, since Ive posted or stopped in to follow this thread!

Northern NSW here, moving back to Townsville QLD shortly... I think last time i posted here i was in Canberra ACT... Lol i move Alot.
I breed Bantam White Mallards, Button Quails (various colour mutations), & a Mixed rag tag bunch of Chooks.
