Okay, so I've been doing more research, because I'm even more confused and in the unknown! I've been finding that some hens have very large wattles and combs - some of which look VERY rooster like! I honestly have no idea what this chicken is. Only time will tell, once I hear her/him crow or lay an egg!

Here's a link to another forum that got me all confused. Looking at those chickens, I would have assumed that they were all roosters! But nope, all but one are pullets! https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/australorp-pullets-or-cockerels.693869/
Here's the pictures from the forum I am referenecing.

again... NEVER BUY FROM TSC! i have never heard ONE good expirence from ANYONE of their chicks!
I did have a good experience but that’s because I knew what I was looking for.
Naked Neck chicks are quite obvious and I knew they were straight run.

Silkies are easy because they have black skin, feathered feet and 5 toes.

Cochins have feathered feet also.

You have to do your own homework. Unfortunately you’d expect a retailer selling live animals would know something about them but I’ve learned that’s not always the case.
It is possible to research what certain breeds look like as chicks.
At that point you know more than the average feed store employee

I have to agree. That’s a rooster. My BA rooster looked just like that at the same age. I thought we were going to have to get rid of him too but honestly he’s the best chicken ever. I love him so much and he’s already protected the girls from two predators and is a great father. Even helps keep the chicks warm at night. I hope you consider keeping him. Because I thank God every day that I didn’t give up my big man. He’s awesome.

Those birds are 25 weeks...that’s over 6 months old.
My Wyandottes started laying at five months old and their combs didn’t start getting pink until right before then.
I don’t know about Australorp but I do know male chickens mature faster than females of the same age.
My bantam Brahma cockerel was crowing between 2 & 3 months old.

My current batch of chicks I have a bantam Cochin who crowed at 4 weeks!
I got video of it a week later when he did it again lol.
His comb only recently started getting red at 6 weeks old.
My 5 Naked Necks (6 weeks) there are two with larger pink combs, two with small yellow combs and one with a larger comb but it’s not pink like the other two big ones :idunno
It’s so hard to know with some of them.
Others make it obvious lol.

I guess with some of them you just have to wait :old
