Australorps breed Thread

LOL..I thought he just had a typo..these came from hupps...is there a hipps too?
There is a Norman and Caroline (?) Hipps in North Carolina that have been very successful in their area shows. I have not seen their birds, but heard good things.WVdan picked up some breeding age birds from them and was impressed. MeanV got hatching eggs. Thinking I may try some this fall?? .....stan

I forgot to mention, I also have a line of utility Australorps. These Australorps look quite similar to your Australorps. I can post a couple pics of those if you like. Here is a pic of a black pullet that has come from a blue line.

I also have a blue hen that is from a utility hen (American type Australorp) and the blue boy I posted before. If you wish to see some pics of her just say so.

That is exactly where my eggs came from. I am hoping for the best! as the eggs had a rough ride & not so comfy package.

Thanks Stan for pointing me that direction!

CB and CG,
Post away with pics. The blue and splashes are relatively new here in the last 5 years. There are only a couple of people working on them.
Can you post some pics showing us the difference between your utility BA's and your exhibition Ba's for comparison, thanks in advance.
I do like the looks of the chooks you have posted previously.
Kurt

Sure Rattlesnake Ridge. This black pullet and blue Australorp is from an exhibition strain (the original line of blue Australorps in Western Australia)

Here is a black Australorp hen from an exhibition strain. She is not show quality but still from an exhibition strain.

Now here are some utility strain pullets.

In my eyes there is a pretty significant difference between the two lines. It would be interesting seeing your thoughts on this too though. The blue hen I posted a couple posts earlier is a mix between an exhibition strain and my old utility strain. My exhibition Australorps are also larger than my utility BA's.

Have you started to develop white Australorps in America yet. This year in Australia a few breeders are releasing some white Australorp stock for the first time. These breeders either breeders either bred them from white Orpington's, bred from bantam white to large for a few generations or had recessive white in BA's. A breeder friend of ours has great black blue and splash stock. Her splashes actually were not splash though. They were dominant white leaking a little bit of black. So now another friend is using dominant white Australorps and crossing them with good type blacks to get rid of light coloured eyes associated with the dominant white gene. Hopefully now that the breed has a few more colour varieties it will become more popular in America. In Australia the blues have been around for 20 years but haven't really taken off until the last few years. The quality of blues are still not as good as the blacks but this is partially because master breeders haven't really taken to the new colours. I like to think that the first blue pullet I posted is high quality for a blue anyway. Comb isn't great but colour and type is reasonable.

Not yet, but I aim to try ..using german white orp and whitney rooster..trying to set up for it..langshan would be too messy legs ect for me to work with at this time..I would need a lot of room..try to get past it if I can..it would be a start anyway..

Your utility birds would be a dream come true to us..little sloppy in the comb but otherwise really nice
