Australorps breed Thread

Great pictures everyone! I have a question regarding this my girls. I have a light Sussex roo I fostered, and I was wondering if anyone has ever mix the two. He has two feathers growing out of his toes. Not perfect, but my girls love him and he's the nicest rooster I've ever owned. The picture of the egg is just for showing off, it's her fourth egg laid, if you don't call her first egg which was a softshell. I like the daily easter hunt :)

Black is Dominant for color so if you hatched eggs form them they would be mostly black and the legs would likely be the wrong color. It would mess up the type for both so they would be a Barn Yard mix. I am sure you would love them though.

You could probably fine a nice Australorp Rooster for them.

Hello Aiode,

I have 20 3 1/2 week old BA chicks which it looks like is a very heavy percentage of males. They are very aggressive and go after each others combs. is this normal? Any way to subdue it? I have 13 Buckeye chicks that are 9 to 11 weeks old and I have seen none of this behavior from them.

I have 2 roosters and 4 pullets--They do not go after the combs.

Are you feeding them turkey crumbles? or something with animal protein? They may need to be in a bigger brooder or use a red colored light. Eco Glows are great too--It gives them a place to hide.

I hope the calm down!

Feeding Purina Game Bird Startena. Also got the Eco Glow Brooder. If it gets worse they may go outside to the big pen sooner than planned.

That sounds like a plan! If it is warm they do not need heat and the ecoglow seems to get them used to lower temps quickly.

I use a feed called pullet grower, it is used by turkey breeders as well, I also give some scrambles eggs couple times a week ..make an outside area so they can pick at plants and buggs and they will leave each other alone and keep themselves busy..they are so busy picking at grasses and buggs at this young age to pick on each other other than playing

I have a large temp pen set up for the baies befor they get moved out into a few bigger spaces .. there is one white cockeral out there who has already established that he runs that pullet pen..all of his movements are deliberate ..the 2 young males play fight a bit..the second cockeral has already accepted that he is the lower in the pecking order and lowers his head when approached by the bigger one as a submissive gesture..later on I will separate them once the hormones really kick in
