Australorps breed Thread

Hi Buns, your post caught my eye indeed! I'm in Australia and have large blues and blacks, splashes should appear in the next month or two, and have toyed with the idea of creating lav Australorps here in Oz using a coronation sussex as a donor bird. Would love to see pics of your little guys to date. Curious what donor bird you used unless it's a secret?!

Soon as I figure out how to use this forum I will get some pics of my birds up if you like!

Need Help ID'ing Roosters vs. Hens.

[I will post pictures later today.]

Sad to say my roosters will be headed off to freezer camp soon . . . they are starting to crow, which won't work in my neighbourhood.

The birds are about 8 weeks old now.

When they were younger three of the nine seemed like roosters to me.
They had combs and thick legs - plus they seemed bossy.

Now, at 8 weeks old only three of the birds are still combless.

Looking at pictures of BA Hens - they do have combs once mature.

So I can't use "combs" alone to determine gender.

How can I tell ?

I have some beautiful chicks that I'm going to list, parents are year around layers and are super healthy birds, take the cold and heat, produce huge brown eggs.

Roosters vs. Hens

So . . . . I have 9 Black Australorps and am trying be sure which are Roosters because it's freezer camp time.
[ The roosters have started to crow - which won't work in my neighbourhood. ]

The birds are 8 weeks old.

6 have large combs and waddles.

3 have little or no comb, and none of these 3 have waddles.

Here are a few pics:

What to you guys think ?

The last thing I want to do is send a young hen to freezer camp !

Right now, I'm leaning toward any of my 8 week old Birds with big comb and waddles is a Rooster and is going to freezer camp.
The others with a small or non-existent comb - and no waddles - is a hen.
