Australorps breed Thread

jdoane,
She looks like a girl to me. Often pullets feather up faster than the cockerels do as well. On young chicks 2-3 weeks old, the comb is thicker on boys. Colour and size may be the same but from a birds eye view a cockerel will have a thicker comb.

RattlesnakeRidge,
If you like I am happy to post pics of my latest batch of blue lorps as they grow and develop. I thought that you and any others breeding blue might like to see the development of my birds as they grow. I can also annotate positive and negative things about colour and combs ect...

Pics of the Black Australorp Condo. It is done but the mess around it has not been all picked up yet.

Your chicken condo is a thing of beauty and looks very functional as well. I love knotty pine which your wood looks like to me. So pretty!
Got a big kick out of your sign on it too. Your chickens are definitely living in style Dan.

Nice !!! The USA flag is a perfect touch on 9/11
Totally agree!!! Wish we could do something like that but up here in the frozen north 7 -8 months out of the year, we have to think more toward function in heavy snow/thaw/mud/more snow/30 below. Why am I living up here again???

Dan, That is one fancy chicken coop, can I move in? I have seen people in our state living in much less than that!!!

After being born a 4th generation carpenter, then carpentering since "68" and being a General Contractor since "80" I can't help but build things to the best of my ability. I not only wanted it stout & secure but I also wanted it to Look Good! The Exterior siding is Cedar. The Roof is a Lifetime premium roofing on a 9/12 pitch. It should outlast me. I am pretty pleased with the results. The Rooster weathervane, and the American and Australian Flags were thoughts I had late in the project. I thought all were fitting. I hope Ross & Grouche likes it when they see it.

It has drawn people from the road just to stop, look at it, and ask to take pictures. One Lady asked if it was a kit :) One thing I have not kept track of is the cost. I know it cost too much and that's as far as I wanted to figure.

The girls do seem very Happy in their new coop!

The Patio Blocks around the exterior are for 2 purposes. Deter predators trying to dig in and make a nice walk way around it. I actually tore them out on a job and got them for free.
