Australorps breed Thread

thanks. Now I'm really confused but she's gonna be a BIG bird...I did hatch out a sex link mix. They were supposed to be aistralorps

You will really like them. You can make black sexlinks with Australorps. They lay early and lay a lot of eggs too. One day I may try some Austra Whites.

I just got six of these from cackle hatchery a few weeks ago. I just moved them outside and they are already filthy.

Very eye opening.

So now I'm squeezing chicks... well, when life gives you lemons...

Vent sexing is not recommended for most people to try. I just wait to see what they are. It is kind of fun to wait and see.

Yeah, that's not happening in this hen house. lol The waiting game sounds fun. *shudders* Ha! Poor Mike...

Actually, not poor Mike. Mike gets paid lots of cash to squeeze them. Poor "Steve"! He has to do it on the cheap.

Poor Steve...

Re: Vent Sexing - Notice it said WITH TRAINING, and experience...this is not something you should do without training. It can do a lot of harm.

Re: Yellow beak - All of mine have been born with black beaks, the legs are dark gray, and the toes are a very pale gray, but not yellow.

Don't check the vent unless you are trained. You could disembowel the chick!

And yes, they have more yellow in the beaks as little nuggets, but the legs shouldn't have lots of yellow. The front should be dark, kind of grey.

Totally agree! Please don't try to vent sex your babies, you could do irreparable harm to them! Look back at some of the chick pics posted on here (mine were in the end of April) and you will see their little legs will be different shades of grey, dark to light, with different amounts of pink that will soon disappear. My chicks pics show differing amounts of black on their beaks mixed with whitish clear to pink (no yellow). This is rapidly changing to black (they are now 7 weeks old). Again, there are lots of chick pics on here to check out for comparison.
