Australorps breed Thread

Vent sexing is not recommended for most people to try. I just wait to see what they are. It is kind of fun to wait and see.
I vent sexed my Silkie and she's fine.

pink soles versus white soles on the feet. Yellow legs and feet would be a black star or something similar.
Yellow legs would NOT be on a Black star. I have one and she's ALWAYS had black legs and feet.
I think my Black Australorp's LEGS were black when she was younger and her feet were pink/yellow/grey.

It depends on what was used to make the Black sex link. If you used a yellow legged breed you would have yellow legged chicks.

Edited to add: You will quickly learn to not use never in with chickens....

Well, my Black sex link is a cross between a Rhode Island Red (roo) and a Barred Plymouth Rock (hen).

I agree, I've never seen yellow on any of my chicks. Their beaks and legs have always been slate to bone white. I wouldn't use a bird with yellow for breeding, even if it was only as a chick.

This is my Black sex link.

I like the coloring!

Each year at this time some come to this thread with Black chickens from the feed store to see if they have Australorps. Many were told they were Australorps only to have reddish colors at the neck and sometimes yellow legs.

A lot of Feed Stores will call any black chick an Australorp.
