Australorps breed Thread

Hello from Byron from Byron, GA. I have 2 Austra whites. I didn't know there was a name for them. One of them has 2 or 3 black feathers in the back.
Byron, Illinois has 3700 or so people and a nuclear plant. I do live 9 miles outside of town, though. How is Byron, GA?

As for the Austra-Whites, that is what Cackle Hatchery called them. They are definitely meatier than the Leghorns and not quite as flighty, but I still don't have any eggs yet to see how white or off-white they are. Each one has the random black feather here and there, but one of them has it in such places that I keep thinking it's a grease spot or something at first glance.

Byron, Georgia is right on I-75 a couple of exits South of Macon. It has a population of 4,700. It is in Peach County so there lots of peaches grown here. It is near Robins AFB which is a large logistics center. A large number of the residents work at Robins. I have only Australorp Roosters and I have 3 White Leghorn hens so I decided to hatch some of the eggs to see what the results would be. They are 8 weeks old so they haven't laid yet. I expect them to start around September.

I like the white look with black feathers....Pita pintas are like that but the ones I have are more black with whit tipped feathers.

My White Lace Wyandottes are 16 weeks old and they are getting the distinctive lacing. I really like the Zebra chickens as my Granddaughter calls them.

Lightchick,
I would hate to disappoint you, but Matt1616 is correct. A pure bred Australorp will never have yellow in the beak or soles of the feet.
The chook should not be bred or be expected to be shown because that would be a serious DQ. As far as keeping just for egg production to be eaten, then who cares, carry on.
