I went out to the pen housing my layer flock including my four Australorps to find that one of my Aussie girls who's molting pretty heavily had been badly pecked on her naked back and was bleeding profusely.

She usually doesn't care much for being handled, but was beyond affectionate with me as I removed her and tended to her wounds. I then set her free to range closer to my Naked Neck and Bielefelder flocks, where she's decided to stay today. Luckily they're all very friendly and accommodating of her since they free range together most days. She also runs straight to me whenever I go outside, but is showing no new signs of additional harassment. I'm hoping that the BluCote I sprayed on her will keep the others from bothering her further. Poor baby.

I'm afraid my 5 are going to quickly loose their rank in the pecking order when my new chicks mature. I want to try a few other breeds and went for birds that are known to be docile but I am rooting for my Australorps to be boss. They never wander, roost wonderfully and have never picked on each other. But I'm adding 17 more chickens. Guess we'll see....

The molt is about over for my girls so here are some pics of my BBS Australorps from one of my pens that I promised. The first pic is one of my spare Blue Cockerel that is 8 or 9 months old. The aussie cattle dog is 2 yold "Zoey Boo" guarding her flock!!!

I'm in Fayette County. I got my first chickens from Tractor Supply. My intentions were to have all bantams but somehow the birds were mislabeled and I ended up with 4 bantams and 5 australorps. No regrets though I love having the fresh eggs. All my new chicks will be from McMurray. Excuse me if I have misunderstood the question I'm new to all the chicken language.

WV Gal,
I live outside of Martinsburg in the Eastern Panhandle. I visit fayette county about every other month because I have a lot of friends in Oak Hill, Lansing, Beckley, Hico, Charlton Heights, and Fayetteville. Back to chicken talk.

Sorry y'all about the pics, the little piglets wanted to eat or run away, but at least you can see the blue lacing, and the splashes that I have been working on with the blacks.

[T]I took some pictures of my babies
There really is only one that has white ears. The others are red. They have gotten so big they are almost as big as the Giants but their eggs are not.
