Australorps breed Thread

Here is a pic of the fella who brought whatever Australorp genes I have in the flock into it. He is definitely a mix of some kind.

As a baby, maybe 2 weeks. I found him so Im not sure of anything about him.

As an adult. He had a lot of cream color frosting on many of his feathers plus the iridescent green sheen on other feathers.

Oh and Rusty is Chickie's baby as is the girl on the deck with him. Chickie died a few months ago but he could possible be the daddy too. I just suspect Rusty as he was younger a much more prolific mater. Chickie had calmed down quite a bit and mostly just hung out with the hens, finding food for them, but not jumping their bones as much.

So you see, Im not thinking pure Australorp but maybe closer to "pure" depending on its parents.

You have amazing looking chickens!

I love Barn Yard mixes! and you have Frizzle Australorps?

Oh thank you. I love them and they are quite unique. I got so lucky....I found Chickie and got my first hen from a lady who had wild chickens on her horse stable land. I also got a roo from her that she thought was a hen. To add to the mix I got a Faverolle roo from a lady when I thought Chickie was a pullet. It is quite the story or how my flock developed.

I like the frizzle look so cute. My hen raven was a rescue. She was thin and dirty when I got her. I fell in love with her, when I picked her, Clover-a buff rock, Fury-a buff brahma and Gypsy-a welsummer up that day, Raven curled into my lap and began to purr. When we got home and I put them in the hospital unit all the others went and hid because they were scared Raven jumped up on my shoulder and nuzzled her head up under my hair and purred away. To this day every morning when I let them out and go about my chores she rides on my shoulder. I got 2 other australorps because of her, when I ordered chicks in oct.

This post warmed my heart.

Came across this thread and have read with interest. I have one Australorp and three of other breeds, bought as backyard layers north of Sydney, Australia. She is friendly, greedy and bossy - thankfully she is kept in check by the calm, bold and non-aggressive RIR who is top chook. Here she is as 23 weeks old - three weeks ago. She just started laying.

Her beetle-green sheen is fantastic in full sunlight. So her name is Beetle.

Yes, I love the green sheen on them! One of my four is bossy. The other three are very chill.
