There is a wide variance in the development of the comb & wattles of my 9 pullets also. The one I have that is laying has laid everyday but 1 so far. I have been amazed with her so far. I have about 4 of the pullets that are squatting, so I am hoping she will have help soon!Hey Dan. My first laying BA, Peppa, has become a pro at laying in the nest box now. LOL Glad to hear yours has figured it out too.![]()
I don't think my other BA, Bella, is laying yet. The interesting thing to me is that Peppa developed her comb & wattles a couple weeks earlier before Bella.
So I am thinking perhaps Bella is a couple weeks behind for egg laying. Does that make sense to anyone? I'm great at observing details like that but have limited knowledge.![]()
Common sense is my best friend. hahaha. Seems like Peppa can lay an egg every 24 hours or so. Is that possible? 36 hours is normal right? They are still small sized ones though.

So do you know if it was your laying pullet one of the ones with early development of comb and wattle? Hope those "squatters" become "layers" real soon Dan.
Bella, my pullet that hasn't began laying, ate some oyster shells today, is now prone to squatting too and then also saw her when she checked out the nest box for about a minute. Hope she is becoming ready to lay soon. Those eggs are so yummy!![]()

Quote:24 hours is an average--they usually lay a bit off from the average.
Thank you so much Ron! Nobody has explained it so clearly to me over the years so I really appreciate your valuable input.
Peppa has laid 4 days, day off, laid an egg, day off, laid an egg, day off, then laid 3 days, which brings us up to date. 9 eggs in 12 days.
Looks like she was kind of sputtering between two cycles.~Dee~![]()

Well the one that had the most developed looking comb & wattles is the one of my pullets that is laying. So do you know if it was your laying pullet one of the ones with early development of comb and wattle? Hope those "squatters" become "layers" real soon Dan.

Regardless of what you are talking about the one thing I have learned about normal and average is things are usually one side or the other and rarely right down the middle normal.Thank you so much Ron! My pullet has laid 11 eggs in 13 days! I bet I just jinxed her!

For Sure! The temperature here always seems 10 to 15 degrees warmer or cooler than average. A day with an average temp is actually pretty rare here!Exactly! Averages are averages and all things vary from the average.
