Australorps breed Thread

Well, from the overwhelming response I didn't get, I may be the only one using Manna Pro products. Manna Pro Chick Starter is 18% protein. Their Gamebird/Showbird feed is 24% protein. My oldest chicks are 6+ weeks now. While I understand that Chick Starter is more balanced to meet their dietary needs as chicks, at what age should I mix in, or switch them to the higher protein?
I use standard crumbles - 18% or whatever but expecting this (or any bag of feed) to provide everything a baby bird needs is not wise in my humble opinion.

I always give my babies scrambled or hard boiled eggs once per day. One egg per 8 or so baby chicks as a supplement to ensure they are getting some well rounded protein which includes lots of good minerals. It is convenient and an easy way for the older adult chickens to help out the babies. Judging by the way they act about them, scrambled eggs is their crazy favorite food in the world. Their behavior goes from common mingling and pecking around drinking roosting or whatnot to OMG pandemonium it's scrambled EGGS! Like watching baby chicken football when one runs around with a piece of egg in its mouth and the others are trying to force a fumble.

Heres a chicken whisperer secret - Just go softly - SHHHH ...they should calm down

My Aussies tolerate being touched and calm quickly when picked up. If their wings are held and they are carried football style they flap and try to escape as quickly as possible. They aren't really known to be an affectionate breed. They were handled as often as my Orpingtons. But they don't crave attention like my Orps.

Ain't it the truth!! My little ladies go beserk when they see the bowl of a crumbled hard-boiled egg or oatmeal...they go NUTS! My friends all think I'm obsessed for doing that but it's good for them and a warm something-something early in the morning just makes me feel good, let alone the little ladies! Loved your post!!

My chicks don't really like egg, lettuce, or worms. The thing my chicks really love are RAISINS and they like bread.
My chicks are VERY picky!

Have you tried oatmeal? Man, my girls go nutso over it! And yes, mine don't like lettuce either, but they do love mealworms! I'll have to try a few raisins and see if they like them!
