It is ...hard to tell with some ...I can see a henism & rooism in the pic..LOL

I'm supposed to be taking a few pics this week. I'll get one of my 'He/She' and post it here. At nearly 6 months, it's rare to find a non-altered Buckeye that you can't put money on it's gender....this thing is one. It's got a little bit of both and lacks some for either.

It is nice and heave...I have plenty of cockerels AND hens....I've never seen this thing crow or show any interest in the hens or pullets so I might be good to just eat the thing anyhow....but I'll get the pic first. When I butcher it...I'll check for testicles and an ovary ....might have both or neither...

They some times mix other breeds in ...with australorps and sell them as just australorps
Those mixes would be more apt to come out when bred ..
Is the hi line 36 w a cross breed ? they look like they are marketed just for egg production

Most chickens have some variations in them

A story...

My husband and I recently expanded our flock to 10 Australorps, and you know what that means... Quarantine!

After seven days of The Big Q, we let the flock mix in the open pasture out back. Only problem was, losing access to the coop (the six babies were locked in there for seven days to teach them where "home" is), our laying mamas got out of the habit of laying in the nest box.

So Hubby is, at this point, getting agitated. Yesterday's was the eighth egg that she has laid *somewhere* in the pasture in a nest we can't find. These are fertilized eggs from our breeding pair, too... So they aren't your average scrambles.

Well, good news... Yesterday, we started watching her around the time she lays. We took our eyes off her for ONE dad-gum second, and she vanishes. After a quick poke around, we find her in this brilliant little covered space made by a piece of corrugated metal and a tarp. After shooing her away, we find her nest, and it was FULL of eggs! There were probably eight or nine. :)

So we have them ALL locked in the coop now to retrain the mamas to lay in the nest boxes. A few days should do it.

Thought I'd share. ^_^

As promised here is the video link for the 8 chicks,I had no clue on which is hen and which is rooster so i just marked them 1 to 8 so its easier to help me out.

I can say that no other rooster was on her and they are all 2 months old since yesterday, chick 1 is the biggest and chick 6 is the smallest but my hunch just by looking at there nature and behavior are they all are Roosters....

I believe your right about the Australorp not being hundred percent pure but i can confirm my Hi-line 36w is hundred percent hi-line ;)
