Australorps breed Thread

It turns out self-blue is lavender, which is a recessive gene.

**IF** there is such a thing as a self-blue Aussie, breeding blue to self-blue would give you a split black and blue chicks (with possible lacing depending on parentage).

Blue to blue (homozygous) yields the splash, as we all know. You'd have to breed a self-blue to self-blue to get them to breed true.

Which still begs the question... Is a self-blue Aussie possible??

But I thought that Blue/Blue = 25%Splash, 25%Black, and 50%Blue.

Australorps are great chickens! Mine are the hardiest of all. I actually have a "pet" australorp hen. When I put her in with a few other pullets and the rooster, (to be a grown up) she took one look at all the other chickens and jumped right in my arms! Needless to say, she is a pet now. Guess we are stuck with her, lol!

I really dig these Australorps. Someone here on BYC recommended them to me and I bought 30 chicks. They are a lot of fun and very friendly.

Self blue is what some people call a lavender colored bird. The bird is actually a washed out blue, one solid color with no secondary color or lacing. Does that help?

I determined that self-blue is lavender and mentioned that twice in previous posts. Also, I found out self-blue can be laced depending on parentage. I mentioned that as well. Thanks for your input, as always.

I want to know if it's possible to breed a self-blue Australorp.

Probably--breed an australorp to a lavender orpington and keep breeding until you got the correct type and and a lavender pair might work. I think it would be tough to do though.

I love a good challenge. :) When I get my BBS in order, if I'm bored, I might try for Lavender. Muah hahahaha!
