How old was she? Did she ever go broody again?
She had turned 1 that year, no she never did get broody again and the other hen disappeared so... We didn't get to hatch anymore eggs. We don't have an incubator

My black australorp hen from Murray mcMurray went broody and we let her try to hatch 3 eggs, one wasn't fertile, we got a boy and a girl. She was a great mom, she was separate from the other chickens the whole time.
Before we let her have eggs I had a baby robin that was abandoned she and another broody hen would fight over it, the robin just wanted food. We would put Robin under her and she would sit on her a lot, Robin actually got too hot.
Nooooo! I hope I'm home !I had a hatchery hen go broody & stick with it. BUT, the chicks started to hatch when I was at work.........................she killed them all :-(

That is the definition of a broody that was not "proven". I have had some that did not want the chicks--they either killed them or let them get cold. I have been able to save most of them though.Well she went down the road to a new home. I now have stock from Australorp breeders................................but I'm still worried about letting them brood
Wow! I would be too! Luckily I have 10 in incubator and threw some bigger hens eggs under her. However that scares me because the first time she tried to go broody. I moved her to broody box and she flipped out! Broke 5-6 eggs. I wonder if it is the breed or they were sick? SadWell she went down the road to a new home.
