AUTUMNAL EQUINOX 9/23/2010 set this morning- 34 eggs! anyone with me??

Not trying to sound like a smartie pants, but there is not an Autumnal Equinox. There is a summer and winter equinox. In summer, it is the longest daylight and then we start losing daylight a minute a day until winter equinox which is the shortest day and then we gain a minute a day and so on.

Hi! That's interesting. My 2010 calendar has 9/23 marked as *Autumnal Equinox*. My 2009 calendar (still hanging on the wall behind it) has 9/22 marked as *Autumnal Equinox*. I wonder what else they have marked incorrectly?
I haven't used zip ties/wire ties for marking chicks (grown birds, yes, but not chicks). I use different colored bread ties sometimes for young chicks. I just wrap them loosely in a spiral. I ordered different colored rolls of plastic-covered wire just for that purpose, gosh way back in summer. Wonder what happened to my order?

alsoooo. on the zip ties as leg bands... i thought of it but then i thought what happens when their legs grow too big? how will i get them off? i didnt like thinking about that... and what happens if you accidentally zip them to tight? YIKES! and OUCH!

:(

i used bread bag twist ties just cut them to he size i needed and wrapped them around the chicks legs...

i totally stole some from the grocery store because the ones from bread bags in my kitchen were not enough/enough colors.

and i used combinations of different colors when i ran out of colors. twist ties work REALLY well.

16 eggs went into lockdown at 6 this morning. I am a mess over lock down the bator is stable on temp and I just added some more water, it was on 60 so it still need to be up some on humidity. I have fish tank tubing ran to the outside and can add water without opening the bator so I am good there. I got that idea here on BYC. Congratulations on your hatches so far guys, cute chicks!

My equinox hatch came out well too! My Welsummer broody hatched 8 out of 11 mixed breed/EE eggs. One pipped but never made it out of it's shell

The rest look like a lively bunch! So now on to the next one - I've a Chochin just setting another dozen. This time I gave her pure Ameraucana and Buff Orpington eggs from FlashPointFarms.

We didnt have too good of a hatch at our house, we started with 18 eggs, all shipped and only 1 hatched...then I had another 28 shipped and only 2 hatched! Both shipments had a rough shipment and we lost alot of them in the box, so I should feel lucky to have 3 chicks alive, but dang those are expensive chicks!!! They better be beautiful!

Terrible luck! I'm afraid to try shipping eggs. I need to gain some more experience with my own mixed breeds and local eggs that don't break the bank before I go for something like that. I probably need to get an incubator anyway. I find my broodys are a little unpredictable!

i'm sorry to hear about your poor hatch. it's really hit or miss with shipped eggs.

my wyandottes were pretty expenisive- got 9 eggs and out of them 2 hatched. one was a roo that i couldnt keep... i was scared i'd get busted when chickens werent legal here yet. i found him a home and he got eaten by a hawk. so i have 1 girl... nevermind feed costs so far and she hasn't started laying yet. :\\ in hindsight i should have kept him in my house in a diaper and bred him in the spring. stupid move on my part. my cochin roo was in the rehome/get eaten boat with him. i'm still really mad about that. i'm technically not allowed to have roos/supposed to keep poultry indoors though. i need to move anyways... i need more room for more henhouses...
