I am new to raising hens and have a mixed flock of 2 roosters, 5 hens, all 9 weeks old and breed is mixed but they all have same full favorolle father. I keep them in a 5x10 chainlink kennel with open top under trees during the day and free range when I’m home. At night, we put them to bed at dusk in our shed in a huge metal trough. We are in the process of building a coop. Last night, they all cried so I let them out of the kenne to migrate to the shed. they all behaved oddly: screamed incessantly, acted disoriented and scattered and two of the hens flew a couple feet high onto the outside chain link fence and literally flapped and climbed 8ft all the way to the top. This was incredibly unusual. Any experience with this? They are aware of the routine and this was so odd...
