Baby Chicks ...mass casualties

While some folks are able to raise chicks in a plastic tote with a heat lamp, I am convinced that it is a recipe for disaster b/c of the small size, the nature of the plastic tote to retain heat, lack of ventilation, and the overkill of heat lamps. They tend to heat the entire space if it's a closed in space like a plastic tote.

@lazy gardener would chicks sieze before death if they overheat?
they twitch after death too

Thank you all who replied for your assistance. I'll be keeping an eye out in the future for the things you suggested. I just hope I don't have any more sudden issues.

The 3 currently surviving chicks look like they might make it. <fingers crossed>

I'm definitely open to hearing more suggestions or theories as to what may have happened if anyone thinks of anything to add. This has been an interesting experience so far.
i would drill some holes in the sides of your tote if you plan to continue using it, they need more air exchange

it is better to have them too cool than too warm
too warm can also cause pasty butt (poop build up on their vent)

Good Luck! and very sorry for your losses
