baby duck with lots of problems

I am so sorry, Patti. Very sweet picture of her there. Does Opie know?
Opie paid no mind to Shirley she was 7 yrs older than him and he never was around her much since she was actually Ernie's girl and kept in a different part of the yard. Ernie and Ruth are by themselves now other than the 3 broody's who are in their part for now Not that they care, I can't pry the girls off their nests. I keep taking their eggs they keep sitting.

Thanks everyone for your kind words, and

JCG Shirley never flew onto the roof although she did fly to the river once then I clipped her wing when I got her home.

Congrats on you getting new chicks. I think the Welsummers would be a better choice over the Rhode Island Reds. They are a more docile breed then the Rhode Islands and they lay a dark brown egg too I think. They should have them sexed too. Usually they will have a pullet bin and then the straight run. Take pics of the babies we would love to see them.

Will definitely take lots of pictures of them to post! We will also get Welsummers and Easter Eggers, two of each, and no RIRs since they seem to be more of a dominating bird..with our girls we have now there's not really a head hen, they're all equal. They hardly ever fight with each other so I'm curious to see if we do get a head hen outta the new ones or if one of our girls now decides to step up. Maybe there is a head hen but she's not a strict one? I dunno, i just never see them fight with each other or boss another one around.

I look forward to seeing them GZ

Well. One of our cars broke down. Something with the engine, it's going in the shop Wednesday and we don't know how much the check up whatever will be or if we can fix it. So we're postponing the new chick's until at least then maybe longer because we want to make sure there's enough money for the car. Itd be no problem if we didn't have to buy all new stuff to raise them up. Disappointed because I was so excited, hope we can still get some after Wednesday and not wait till spring

Do you keep Ernie and Opie separate because they are both drakes and you don't want conflict between them? I am happy Ernie's had women and now has Ruth. We know Opie will never be without females since he is so attractive and the gals love strong males. Is Ernie mellow?

Funny about your broodys. I bet they totally pancake when they sit on those eggs.

Aww sorry to hear that GZ but mechanics can get expensive hopefully this won't be and you'll still be able to get those chicks.

Yes Julie Ernie and Opie can not live in the same area, they hate each other and fight through the fence so I have had to put up plastic fencing over metal fencing and netting over that. Now they just make noises back and forth, but Ernie is no match for Opie 7 yrs difference in their ages although Ernie thinks he can whop him lol
Ernie is pretty mellow as long as Opie isn't in view. I'll take a pic of the old fellow so you can see what he looks like. I'll also get some pics of my pancakes they are hilarious.

Joy and Hope
