Now wait a minute you now have 4 chicks trying to get one rooster. You could have possibly had 6 chicks trying to get one roo. Thats chicken math for you.Chicken math and duck math get the best of us. I was finally down to 12 hens and a roo and my lil game bantam goes broody, dh says you know Rufus is getting close to 6yrs we better think about another roo soon well I didn't want to bring one in from outside so we got outside eggs. Then my lil Lavender Orp goes broody after 3 yrs old goodness so I got 3 eggs for her from same source. They each had 3 eggs and only hatched 2 each so I guess that is still considered birth control kinda .
I stay away from TSC and any feed store that has ducklings, gosling or chicks during spring I know my weakness.
Usually I sit in the truck when hubbie mentions they have chicks inside. That time I went in then the two little sex links by theirselves I felt sorry for them. Now the brats are jumping my old hens and driving them bonkers. Poor Bubba my head roo can't protect all the hens by himself. Dottie the head hen helped him out the other day. She come storming out of the coop and jumped Jackie Chick(sex link roo) while he was jumping Skittles. Never a dull moment around here. Hubbie tells me you know if you give them away their going to eat them. That makes me feel guilty but I know their going to get worse as they age.
