I'm in Oregon too, lucky you for it only being 101 it's going to be at least 106 today and the weather guy said that it would probably be even higher than that. It really worries me because I've lost two chickens this year to heat stroke I think, I thought it was some illness and was keeping them put up so the ducks wouldn't get sick as I treated it, I think now though it was too hot in the coop. Especially since when a partial necropsy was done nothing was found wrong with them. Anyone have tips on how to keep them cool? I put frozen bottles around the yard for them to lay by, they've not figured that one out yet though, I've also got a fan in the coop and give them water melon and stuff. When I notice them panting with wings out I do chicken dipping, full up a bucket with cold water and set them in it
are u in Medford area? That's usually the hottest spot in the state? I am sorry u lost two of your Sweetie chickens to the heat. It is so brutal. It sounds like u r taking great measures to keep your feathered beings cool. I hope they all get thru this furnace blast of weather.

This is Topper she has a small crest it was taken in the shade so it's not a good pic of her. She is the pig in a ducks body. She was running with a rotten egg in her mouth when Josh and I went out to collect her eggs. One of the eggs must have exploded. I'm glad we didn't have to run her off the nest. Hopefully she won't go back to the nest because it's empty now. Patty
oh, cute little Topper.

I found another nest of eggs yesterday evening. Thelma or Louise was the culprit. Every morning I found a an egg right out in the open in my flower bed in plain sight. I think they were using that as the decoy egg so I wouldn't look for the others. I looked under the Peony bush and there were about 8 eggs in a pretty little circle hidden very well. They are determined to hatch more babies.

I fed them watermelon today and Que Sera loves it. She wasn't running for the treats when I throw them out but she was with the watermelon. She saw Uno going for a bite and she let him have it. She shares with her little friend.

They sell misters that put out a little sprinkles of water. You could put one of those out to help cool them down. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I know how sad it is.
