baby duck with lots of problems

Thank you . Not that I had anything to do with them being beautiful I owe that all to my girls.

Do you ever show yours? Shows I go to have a category for eggs. I think they pick those partly on presentation. I wish they would do that at poultry shows like they do at dog and cat shows.

Never seen a category for showing eggs maybe at fairs?? sadly we don't have anything like that close.

Aww I'm sorry you lost some of your chickens due to heat. it's been awful this year we even got into low 90's with humidity high. Some of mine looked pretty off my oldest 2 especially are 7yr and 6yrs. But they proved to be tough old gals after all. What part of the country are you in? if you don't mind me asking

I'm over in Oregon, it's been unusually high this summer, in the high 90's to 100's. Losing those two sweet girls has taught me a lot. I wish I would've known the things I know now and have them still be alive, but I'm just lucky I didn't lose them all

Be prepared Deb they will pick the most out of the way spot.  Thelma and Louise laid 4 eggs under the porch.  I had to get a stick to get them out.  Remember Topper laying behind the wood pile.  I had to dismantel the wood and get the eggs from behind.  Sometimes they lay in the duck house which is fun to find.  I just look for a circle of straw with a wall about a foot tall.

Yes Que Sera is quiet today and laid back.  They must have stayed up all night or something.  I will give my love to her she looks like a white pencil now.

Weeeeeee, Patty, Que Sera. Penciling out. Love it. She pancakes too, doesn't she? You've managed to write another great daily update about the goings on of your diverse flock. Always love reading your posts.

Uno is bigger then Que Sera now.  Males are usually bigger then the females.  Rhonda runner is still with the Sonny, Louise and Thelma group.  Rhonda is pretty quiet she lets Thelma and Louise run the show in the back yard group.

Patty
p.s. hope to get some pictures tomorrow.
Wow, interesting he is bigger than her. But it isn't surprising that as a male he is bigger. Love those group dynamics. Beyond entertaining.

No, not just at fairs. They do that at the poultry shows here. I can't tell you why what wins and what doesn't. Some of it seems to do with presentation, but I'm not sure since I've never looked into the rules for showing eggs.

I admit that I was kind of disappointed when I first started going to poultry shows because they don't do any prizes for presentation of anything but the birds. I know it makes perfect sense because that's what you're there to show, but I was used to dog and cat shows where they gave awards for cages, and I wanted to do that as well. I'm not all that creative and wouldn't have won one of those, but it would have been fun to try. If you've never been to a show where they give those awards, you wouldn't even believe how elaborate some of them are.

I went out to feed Sherry and Clyde out front and here come Topper zooming around the corner.  I reached down and picked her up again and waited for Sherry to get finished with her eggs and then after petting and talking to her about being such a little piggy I put her down.  This time she run over to the bowl and finished off what Sherry left.  Donald gave me more dirty looks and I told him I was tired of Topper eatting her food and then coming out front and eatting all of Sherry's too.  He knows she is a pig with no table manners what so ever.

I saw the ducks overhead practing their flight patterns for flying south.  It's always sad for me when I see them I know summer is coming to an end.  I enjoyed this summer so much being about to spend more time with the ducks and chickens.  When I worked I didn't get to spend very much time with them and the winter time they were almost ready for bed when I got off from work.  Hubbie would always give me reports on how they were doing.

Let me share with you all one of my favorite funny story about Hubbie and the chickens.  I got home from work and Hubbie said I got everyone in the coop except for Fluffy I couldn't find him anywhere.  I told him no wonder you couldn't find Fluffy we don't even have a chicken named Fluffy.  I knew he was talking about Frosty our silky roo but it was so funny the way he said it.  He said you know who I'm talking about the gray one with the spots.  I couldn't stop laughing, finally I told him Frosty's name.  From then on Frosty's nickname was Fluffy.  He died in the coop fire last winter bless his heart.

oh, Patty, I am sorry to hear you lost Fluffy. Sad. Cute story though about your hubby getting the name wrong. Topper is a hoot.

Julie I didn't even notice that but I bet she does.  It has glass windows it is the topper to hubbies truck.  She loves to talk to Princess so I'm sure she is seeing her reflection in the window.

Patty
it's almost like everywbere she could go as long as there's something reflective to look at she sees Princess.

Started with six chickens but sadly two died a few weeks ago due to heat stroke I think..and so now there are four, and we have five ducks total but have had eleven at one point
I'm sorry for your losses it's always so hard when you lose them.
