baby duck with lots of problems

Glad to hear today is better for you, Patty! Please continue having a nice day. Also, I'm not sure if I've mentioned before, but I definitely enjoy your posts. Thanks for sharing the shenanigans that your feathered family members get into.

X2 !!!

Thanks Deb and Patti my day is going much much better.. The chickens and the ducks provide the entertainment here and I just share their stories.

It didn't take long for Sonny and his flock to come back over to the backyard here. A clean pool and here they all come. Then 20 minutes later and oh no the water is dirty again. It looks like they would learn how to wipe feet before getting in and poop before they enter. Now they can go back to their old routines of getting fed in seperate groups. Sherry is highly upset Topper, Dee Dee and Freckles are laying in her nesting spot. She is the only duck that lays in the same spot everyday, behind the little bush out front. I went to collect her 3 eggs this morning and she has at least 12 eggs in the nest. Topper not only takes her food in the morning she is trying to steal her nest. No I did not wear a dress when I bent over to get all those eggs.

I got an answer on the baby aspirin for chickens, they can have 2-3 a day spaced out. (Am asking now if a non flavor one is needed) I'll start with a half today and work up if it doesn't help their limping. I was told earlier that my sister had heard them squawking like crazy yesterday so she went out and saw one all ruffled up and limping, she thought it was a cat but maybe the two were fighting? And thats why the same foot is hurt? Because they do the jump up and smash the other into the ground thing and used the same foot? I don't know what it was but I will keep a watchful eye on them!

I also took Dave out front for a walk around the yard today, Our neighbors were out and he kept pulling towards one so I went over and introduced them and boy was he a happy camper!! Then I took him across the street to the other neighbor, but there was no shade so I took him home soon after. The hot pavement gets to his little feet, so I don't let him on it for long. I had to carry him across the street because of that reason and he decided half way across to flap his wings (He likes to pretend to fly when I hold him, I'll dip him up and down and he has fun, it's super cute.) so he was flying in my hands and this car was coming towards us so I hurried across the street and sat him down and the guy in the car turned his whole body to watch me and Dave! his jaw was dropped open so wide and his eyes were huge!

It was worth buying the harness just for his face! Priceless!

I bet the person in the car had to do a double take lol. That is sweet Dave got to meet the neighbors.

Well I am glad you got some answers about the baby aspirin but I don't know if it comes in unflavored all I've ever seen is flavored with orange or cherry. I hope the aspirin does the trick and they begin to feel better. Mine do the same thing they will jump into the air and chest bump.

I got the answer on flavor, it shouldn't matter is what they said, which is good we've got orange so I hope they like it! I hope they just got in a fight and it's not something worse. I'm going to walk him around the yards tomorrow and then Saturday it's off to the park! Will have someone record peoples faces, or try to anyways.

I don't want to alarm you but I don't think with the Avain Flu epidemic still going on here in the US I'd take Dave to the park where wild geese are or even dumped domestic ducks and geese maybe. Just too risky at least till they announce the AI is no more in the US. I also wouldn't take him to any neighbors who have poultry, Just better to follow Bio Security right now GarnerZoo. Of course you can do what you like I just felt I should share this with you.

Oh god, I forgot all about the Avian flu! thanks so much for reminding me..thankfully none of my neighbors have poultry. The park I was going to take him to has no water anywhere near it and I've never seen ducks/geese..doesn't mean they haven't been though, so you're right. All the waterfowl hang out by the river on the other side of town but I will be careful about where I take him. Thanks again for reminding me. I will plan out a different place to take him..I don't want to cause any of my feathered babies harm. I can't believe I forgot about it..I guess since the news has been about the fires and weather lately i've worried more about that than the Avian Flu..thanks for the reminder of this. God i can't believe i forgot, i feel terrible now, so thank-you so much!

I'm glad you got an answer to the baby aspirin I hope the chickens get better real soon. Let us know how they are doing.

Oh my Dave visiting the neighbors I bet they enjoyed that. I've never seen a duck on a leash before either I would have to stop and stare.

I wish you could have gotten a pic of that guy I bet he was thinking now I've seen it all.

You are at it again with the humor and great stories, Patty. Topper sure wants everything of everyone else's. I love her for that.

That is priceless. And I love that you make Dave pretend to fly. So sweet. Kiss him for me.
