Up to 7 eggs laid today. 3 large egg layers and it looks like (taking other clutches into account) 2 medium layers, and 3 small or extra small. I will have to figure out which Olive Egger lays the double yolks as I don’t want to breed her.

I checked this book out from the village’s public library… the book is geared towards an easy pleasant read. It is however full of information and yes research is sited, with references in the back so you can go deeper into the studies if you choose. I found it fun, and learned chickens name each other and people with unique calls… yep if you got chickens you probably have a chicken name. I learned that chickens can learn from watching TV and more. Besides calls the book covers, sight, taste, smell, intelligence, psychology and more about chickens. It’s a good little read and lots of important tidbits of information are in it. Some of the information might help if you have had aggression in your flock.

See if your library has it, it isn’t big, just full of info presented in a very casual fun way. I learned things I didn’t know. I had already learned a few things but there was plenty I was… oh I didn’t know that moments. You can easily finish the book in a day. It is fun.

It is weighing and photo day for the chicks… Tobby who is now laying next to me was jealous the whole time as all he understood was the chicks were clearly getting pet and attention and was not. He wanted on my lap the whole time. Our other dog didn’t care. So Tobby got his picture taken too.

It appears my department has been adopted by this beautiful wild turkey. She free ranges around the property. We also have well fed cats. The Turkey is a recent comer, she looks though as to have decided we are nice folks.
