Bad Boy, Good Outlook

Big for his age?????
I was thinking the same thing. I'm not wrong on his age. He has a flockmate- another wyandotte cockerel whom is significantly smaller... These are my first wyandottes, so I'm not sure on size or growth rate.
Is Adam growing fast, or is he going to be a Clifford of chickens? (Reference to Clifford the Big Red Dog).

Hes very handsome

I have had more roos thand I wanted in the past year
8 to be exact and all different in behavior

My first was a duccle bantam and he was the worst . He would attack at all times every second I was out there he would run after me , didn't scare me because he was little I tried everything to mellow him but nothing worked
I rehomed him

Other duccle a mille fleur , he was a very good roo for the flocked but attack me out of the blue like once a week and it would be quick

Jinx who lost his use of one of his eyes from a racoon attack is a buff brahma bantam. I had to work with him a lot he was nervous and skiddish which made he aggressive when I tried to pick him up he would "bite" down on me so hard he could hold on by just his beak
After working out his nervous and skiddish issues he turned out to be my bud and loved coming to sit with me and being petted
But out of the blue him and bob was non stop fighting really bad for long periods of time until they were bloody
I had to rehome them
I really miss him

I now have 5 roos
1light brahma
3 silkies
1 polish frizzle

All still cockerels
My light brahma is very sweet and nervous sometimes, he has pinched me with his beak but 99% of the time wants to be held and patted

One of my silkies is in devil mode right now, he does lash out at my feet or anything near his face but he loves to be snuggled and petted and hes always off on his own, he loves his bathes too

Floyd can be very bossy but not often. When Zeus my light brahma was smaller he used to chase him all the time I would find poor zeus in a corner hiding his head.
Floyd though is actually quite sweet

Hes a good informer of things he found

Then my other two silkies are very mellow and sweet and are always together

So right.now they are all living in harmony.
It would break my heart to have to rehome any of them so I know what you mean when you say he found his way to your heart

I hope he stays sweet because he is very handsome

Thank you for sharing this. Your understanding is appreciated and it was nice to read about your birds. I respect that you've done what's best for your flock. You seem very impassioned.

Much obliged.

Sometimes the first thing people will say when they hear you have a roo acting up is.. get rid if him, cull him etc.
My flock are my pets . I have raised them from day one or I hatched them myself. They spend their first at least 2 months inside with me
I work from home so they are in my office with me and yes sometimes have run of the room while I am working
(I buy plenty of potty pads to cover my floor )

Once they go outside I spend hours worh them every daily, introducing them to outside, the rest of the flock,
I spend hours just sitting with my flock,
So my chickens are close to my heart, they enjoy being petted or sitting on me, some breeds like it more than others but they all love to come greet people

My kids are grown 5 of them, so. Now this is what I take care of.

So i am glad you didn't give up on him.
I understand some people have chickens for eggs or meat only so I am not knocking anyone who does cull when they have a problem

My flock are pets as well. The older girls don't lay anymore but they are still treasures. I couldn't imagine giving up on one of them if another solution is possible. When I mentioned that I had a cockerel with a bit of an attitude, one of the first suggestions was for me to eat him.
I don't eat any poultry. I don't butcher my birds. I know people do- meat has an origin and purpose, and I support that. But, like you, it's not something I do with my birds.

Thank you for sharing about how you spend time with your birds, inside and out. It's fun to read when others have such joy and commitment.
I'm the same way. I always find time to spend with them, and they are each wonderful and quirky.
