You don't need Araucana to have rumpless birds. Also, getting Araucana in there is kinda hard, as real Araucanas are rare.

Having a rumpless bird suddenly pop out of what seems to be a normal breeding can happen. There's even a Feathersite section on it.

But the green eggs don't just pop up. There is Araucana in the background of the EEs. Tom

Ah. Don't know how I didn't even realize that she was an EE cross. . . Well then yes, there's Araucana in there. . . . Really really far back.

Rumplessness can pop up like recessive white, really - It can happen even after 5 generations of not being around. Even tufted birds, to some people, seem to have no tufts at all. Although, not a single chicken on this thread shown is technically rumpless - They're just partially tailed.

Rumpless birds will have a VERY smooth, round rump with NO tail feathers whatso ever. They also have missing vertebrae which cause this. Here's how a true rumpless bird's behind should look: (all the birds on this thread prior are partially tailed)

I have a true rumpless Golden Lakenvelder- just showed up out of nowhere.

I also have a lovely Orpington who hasn't any tail appendage or vertebrae, who has a couple of wide tail feathers out of the skin just before where her tail ought to arise. She hasn't an oil gland, either, which is another characteristic of rumplessness. She still has a rudimentary tail, though.

Illia,

Is that boy tufted? He is beautiful. I love the coloration. Isn't it cool all the colors that come from Gary's birds.

Tufted indeed, although the other bachelors "chewed" them off for the year. He's my Lemon Blue guy.
