Bad News. Just had a Biddy born with 2 beaks

I'll try to catch the Lil Rascal tomorrow if it's not too hot out. He's a fast one! The high should be in the low 70s, but it was about 88° today and the humidity was bad from the morning on. If I can't catch him in short order, I'll have to get back in out of the heat. I can't handle it like when I was a spring chicken.

Large tropical fish net catches chicks pretty good.
Are they in a brooder?

We raised ducks for the freezer as a kid, and yes there was inbreeding going on as they were not penned or separated. Anyhow, we had a duckling with a toe like appendage growing from its head. I took it to school for "show and tell" during an FFA meeting to the surprise of many attending. Anyhow, it lived to adulthood (before the neighbor's dog ate it). Ya never know what will happen. Good luck.

I'm no expert but upon first glance at your pics my thought was the tongue, also. It'd be great if you could get it back into position and then stitch the hole under the beak. Other than the minor deformity the chick looks to be healthy and thriving. I believe it has a good chance. Wishing you the best of luck!

A Brooder of sorts. It's a wooden house up off the ground with a floor 6ft long by 4ft wide with a big community nest. Once these babies start foraging, I'm gonna build some dividers and more doors. Right now I can't reach in to all parts of it to get them if they run to the other side. I was in a hurry to get the Broodys in it and out of the main run/nesting area because they were infecting all the hens with broodiness. I found out after sending some pics to Auburn University that they are mostly Red Jungle Fowl and Shamo/Malay i trapped in the swamp. About 3 times a year, they lay eggs for a couple of weeks then turn broody. But they put off some strong pheromones that cause most the hens, even the leghorns to stop laying even if they don't start sitting on eggs. That's why I had to get them seperated so quickly. I may just build a second pen/run on the other side of the property for the swamp/jungle chickens.
