It's been several months sine we switched feed. I'm going to compare ingredients. We have our rooster in with hens that were laying, they have slowed down. Hard to feed them seperately.
What were you feeding?
Where you feeding a whole grain type feed instead if a crumble or pellet?

The OP was feeding Scratch and Peck.
Thanks.

This was probably the problem.
Being able to pick and choose which grains he wanted which can lead to an unbalanced diet.

Stick with a crumble or a pellet from now on.

Also check the mill date on each bag of feed. Some vitamins deteriorate over time, not helpful. I want to use feed that's under two months of age, and the local feed stores can have stuff that's already six months old on the shelf. I just won't buy it!
Some birds do pick out the yummy bits from a whole grain feed, and become malnourished. It's a common problem with caged birds, and also pet rodents fed such diets. It's not hard to be fat, and have vitamin deficiencies, and/ or mineral imbalances.
