Banding Quail

I'm thinking of banding my birds to keep track of them (several look the same). My initial thought was to use colored zip ties, but I was wondering whether anyone else has tried it, and whether they are too heavy for the little coturnix. The zip ties are the 4" (smallest I could find) ones.

I use thin ones. My birds don't seem to notice and it's nice how thin their legs are compared to their feet. They can be kinda loose and not slip off

I’ve used the small zip ties to mark chicken chicks. I’ve used them for quail chicks also after the first week. You will need to replace them several times due to how fast they grow.

I ordered size 4 Spiral Leg Bands for Poultry from Stromberg' s Chickens. They come in different colors that you can choose or packs of mixed colors. Each hatch gets a color. Males on left leg and females on right. I put them on at 6 to 8 weeks. No problems.

I use zip ties just make sure you watch them like all leg bands

I've heard the small zip ties work. I've also heard to avoid red.

I heard that too but a friend marked one of theirs in red and had no problems so I'm not sure. I stay on the safe side and don't use them though.
