Bantam Coop

I love it. You just inspired me to build a separate coop for the bantys I am thinking about getting next Spring.

I really like your coop. I left less space underneath hoping to get max shade and coolness from soil. It will be harder to clean but it works.

You did a wonderful job! It looks perfect in your yard. I am sure you have some happy chooks! I especially love that door! thumbsup Did you enter the coop contest? If not, be sure to enter the next one! Have fun!clap

I didnt...But I will.
VERY cute coop! big_smile

Do you have a door on the bottom hatch? If so how did you build it?

We have a coop we built with a bottom hatch but never got around to designing a door.

I don't know if I should have one, I have a Blue Tick Coon Hound who is just hoping for a possum or a raccoon and the botom is all hardware cloth buried with rocks around it. Maybe when I install a run I will. I have it the parts just need to install it. Its a sliding door that uses an aluminum arm to open and close without having to open the coop up.

Thanks everyone.

I have been building a coop for 4 Bantams. Its almost done but just wanted to show my progress. I have a small yard and needed a coop that worked. I figured it out as I went and most importantly... my wife approves. Thank you guys for all the information on this site. It really helped.

Garage is a mess sorry. I am also remodeling my bathroom. Hence the toilet in background

Nest box does not have divider. They will have to share

I used hardware cloth for the floor. I will cover with newspaper and use the DL method

I plan on shortening it up. I kept it tall so it would be easier to work on. This project turned out to be about $100 dollars, including hardware cloth. I used pine siding from home depot which did about a wall and a half for 8 bucks each pack. I also used 2x2 ($1.86 each), 1x2($0.86 each) for framing and a left over 2x4. Its still light enough for me to pick up. I wanted it mobile for cleaning and I plan on attaching a run later.

Hope this helps others with big hopes for a small coop.

Here are some updated pictures.

sorry seems the pictures got mixed up. I'm debating painting. I do wonder what you or anyone else suggest for bedding? My big girls are using straw but I hear great things about sand. I know CL can't use sand cause of her feet.here is her two room mates

I know yours was built in 09 the price diffrence was only 15-20 $ without paint or fence for bottom. Not bad for 5 years! Thanks again!
