I am trying to let my hens be as natural as possible, They free range wll day and go in the coop at night. 2 of my hens have nests one made hers in the coop with 2 egss, the other has a nest of about 14 eggs underneath the run. Its now 27 days since they first began sitting and no eggs have hatched. 2 eggs from the 14 egg nest cracked when the hen accidentally kicked them out when coming out to eat. The eggs looked bloody inside so Thats fertile?.
This is the second go around for me waiting for eggs to hatch. The first time all was going well til we had a cold snap for several days and Lulu stopped sitting her nest, trixie hopped on it after 2 days but nothing hatched.
This time the girls have been perfect little mothers . A couple of folks said its the roosters fault. I had an 8 mo old frizle rooster til I found him dead in his sleep this morning.
Should I leave the eggs there til the hens give up, or take them out?
