Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Pics
They are 5 1/2 weeks old now - the pullets are basically feathered in. The cockerels still have bare spots and short stumpy tails. Leg thickness is beginning to show also, cockerels are starting to look like tree trunks. Combs are becoming more prominent as well. I still have 1 or 2 that I'm not 100% sure on. (hard to know when you have 22 chicks running around)

got them on ebay from a guy, Andy, who seems pretty serious about breeding and their lineage. his pics of his chickens are beautiful. He is breeding Johan, KC and Ledford lines. he breeds in separate pens to keep it all straight and labels his eggs according to their lineage. I am so far very satisfied. I was really worried about the viability of the eggs coming from cross country but was happy with the hatch rate. I suspect it would have been higher if i didn't live so far away.

I was just wondering if you got them from ebay. I was gonna buy some from someone in Oregon whose username had "TRUCKER" in it. I lost a bid and didn't bid again. I just wondered if it was the same guy.
Good luck with your beautiful chicks

no - his username is paneltruckenterprise and he sells in lots of 8. his pics have an overlay that say "copyright 2011 Mountainview Orchards." He currently has an auction going (220767871607) that ends in 11 hours. good luck.

Well candled last night and I am down to 4. This is so upsetting. If I order 12 more then I might end up with too many for my coop but if all 4 hatch then I only have 6 and I really want 12. Never realized how hard Barnies were too raise!

I got 5 out of 10. I don't know if it is because they are barnies or because they shipped from one coast to the other or because it was my first ever hatch. If you really want 12 I say order more. You probably wouldn't have a problem finding new homes for the extras if you have any. It will also give you a chance to keep exactly the ones you want instead of the only ones that hatched. good luck if you go again.

The eggs we got from Trisha are going into lockdown late tonight/early in the morning. Depends how late I stay up and how long it takes me to get it all together and remember everything I need to do. She sent me 18 eggs, 14 that are vB/Johan X vB, 2 KC line, AND 2 Cornevelder eggs! When I candled a few days ago they ALL looked good to go. Only one looked like it might be slightly behind the others but it is a bit smaller egg too. I've had almost perfect incubation conditions so far. Not bad for a very hastily thrown together cooler-bator (because I had eggs in the mail!). I'll candle all of them just at lockdown and post what they look like then.
I'm not counting chickens before they hatch, but this hatch looks to be a good one. Trisha only lives about 6-7 hours away from me so the eggs didn't have far to go, so not as much handling/dropping/etc. I'm getting a second batch from Trisha right after these hatch, so hopefully I will have a solid start on this breed.
