Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

That's what I was wondering in the back of my head...different breed? I'll take wellsummer hens any day. I have some that lay great dark eggs.

Thanks again

They could also be barnies with some wellie cross in them.... had that happen once. Back when they were first brought over hatcheries crossed barnies with wellies to try and get the barnies to lay more and darker eggs. If they were hatchery stock then that could be a very likely possibility.

Howdy neighbor,
Looks like we are both in Johnston Co. I got these from a lady in Goldsboro. She breeds her own and doesn't even offer Wellsummers and actually said she doesn't like them. I went around with her and looked at all her chickens and remember pointing one out to her that looked just like a wellsummer. She also told me that she is still working on her barnies and that they may not look as expected. hmmm. Your thought could be the case. I'll have to think about what else to look for.

lol I got mine from the same lady, I can post some pictures of how mine turned out. I bought eight chicks, of which five were roos three were hens. Out of those eight I got one pretty decent roo and hen. I do have a second "runner-up" roo that is not too red, but most likely wont be used for breeding. The two other hens are very pretty, the lacing on them is pretty bad though. they can stick around and be a beautiful addition to the laying flock, however they wont be used either. I am looking into ordering eggs to add to the fairly decent pair I have to work with them and see if I can breed them to get some nice quality birds to sell chicks/hatching eggs.

lol...that is funny. That would be great if you could post some pics. I am curious to see what they might turn out like. Good luck on breeding some high quality birds. We could certainly use more of them today and in the future.

So cute! Hi Remi!

I have a question about the bands
when they are so little you have to use the little bands
are they are to take off and replace with the next sizes?
how do you handle it?

I got her from PinkChick and I think it's a little piece of horse wrap. It's a little stretchy.
