Sounds like it is working!

****Apologies Elaine, my phone does funny things so my comment below looks like your quote. below is my response:****

****I'm so glad for you. And I think your experience brings some very important things to light...that coxi is often misdiagnosed by us because it presents many symptoms. Like a newborn with a fever, sure, it could be just a flu or a tooth, but your mind races and the Internet keeps pace. What if it's fifth disease? What if it's roseola? What if it's a bowel infection, etc etc.
it's JMO, and too bad this experience is tucked away in a more obscure thread, but my philosophy is to treat as coxi first, and if that's not it, then worry. I haven't been wrong yet! I think new chicken owners could really benefit from this. You took great advice and it possibly saved your beloved birds. I wish I had known more about coccidia years ago. Corid is available retail. Not sure if sulfa/sulmet is like that in the US, we need a vet for it here. I would recommend to any BYC'er that it should be supply priority one after feeders, bedding and waterers.
As you said, death 24 hours after symptoms arrive. you could lose a lot of birds very quickly if your feed mill was closed/out of stock/vet booked for just one day...
Wondering too if sulfa could potentially knock out any secondary infections as a result of the cox as well. Not sure who recommended that protocol to you, Elaine, with the Vet Rx, etc, but it's clearly a good one!
I just love happy endings!!! Way to take action, follow your gut (mega dosing) and lovin' on those little guys :)

Very impressed that as a community people rose to the occasion to help/advise!!! Every bird is important to its owner!!! Good for you
To take advice and follow through!!!

The vetRx was me...
I figured it couldn't hurt at that point.
Also the straight up med. When my cat gets an infection, the vet gives a shot plus liquid to take home. He calls it a loading dose to get the antibiotics in system faster. I wasn't sure an oral antibiotic was the same. But I was pretty sure those birds were going to die anyway. Why not experiment...
The initial advice was from rockinrranch.com I can't remember his screen name in this forum.

5 of 6 Birds treated with VetRx and 1cc of undiluted solution are still alive. Some have improved rapidly, rest have stayed same. The pure breeds have not improved. Some of the EE mutts have made almost full recovery. Silkie hen with symptoms is now chasing the roo around. So Id say she is completely recovered and is not a fan of the super sweet roo.

I would like to show my Barnevelders in an upcoming show next month. I was told that they need to be tested by a state Vet (by someone who showed her birds in another state). How do I find out who to call...and what else do I need to know about showing? I need leg bands...I don't have any...does the vet put them on? Do I buy them somewhere? The entry form has to be in by November 6th so I'm in a bit of a time crunch...

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Awesome! Thanks! I checked that site, called the number, and I'm waiting for the vet to call back sometime this week. There is so much more to this showing stuff than I realized but I really want to get started doing it with my Barnies!

Thanks again ke5hde!
