Love this new brooder you built
Will you send me more detailed plans for it? or more pics? How did you do the top with the light?
Is it in the garage? or in the house? does the light keep them warm enough in a garage or do they have to be inside?
It looks great

I'd love to see how this one was put togehter TLS_Ranch
I'd love to see all cool brooder solutions actually, especially with little barnies in them

I borrowed from NellaBean's idea. I just did a single level. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5794538#p5794538

I did most of the work and it went together really fast, but I had my DH help with the door and front trim:)

! I want to build something like, but mobile like a tractor so that I can move the older 4 week+ chicks around outside. They seem to grow so much faster when they have access to green grass, fresh air and room to roam.

I agree, they grow better outside when they have access to their natural food sources.

Mediazeal......The top hinges and opens (so does the roof over the nesting box). So I have the lamp hung and the wire hangs out in the groove of the siding. Plug it into the wall via an extension cord and it's nice and toasty. That snow was from December 2009 and there were 5 week old chicks in it at that time.

Trisha......It has wheels, but I remove them when I have the little ones in there because otherwise I get escapee's. (after 2-3 weeks, they can't get out though) They are easy to put on and take off (the bolts are built into the coop, so you just undo a nut and slide the wheel on, replace the nut), and the coop is pretty easy to move. The run, not so much. All my chicks are in it now, and in another week, I'll open up the run for them. Then I get to play the make sure they all get in at night game with them.

My eggs arrived from Johan yesterday.

Thought I would share a picture of them. Some of his girls are laying darker than they were last year when I got eggs from him. I love the dark ones and the speckled ones. Popped 'em in the 'bator last night.

ok I really got a question about the egg color, my two barnevelders bantam are pure breed but the eggs the pullet is laying are nearly lightbeige. I've had 3 different pullets by 3 different breeders but all had the same color. How come?

Congrats Kim! Good luck with your hatch! Beautiful eggs.

San, I don't know. Hopefully someone with more experience will post for you. I do know that they are supposed to be dark layers, but egg color here has suffered. Maybe the same for you?
