Barred Rock chick. head down, lethargic, feisty LAST NIGHT

I am wrapping his neck with vetwrap but only when Junebug is in my lap or she panics or picks at it and could get her beak caught which would be really bad. It seems to be when her head gets lowered to by her feet she has a spasm and her neck twists uncontrollably. After each time, she does good for slightly longer periods of time. I am not sure if any of it will be permanent.

I have not tried to re-wrap Minion's leg my self but the way she showed me to slip his tendon into proper position (first have someone hold the biddy) and she used her thumb and rolled his right tendon by pressing on the inside of his right tendon hock and rolling it upwards and to the right. That would make a slightly nauseating to me "pop" you could feel under the skin but you know its right when you see his foot go from a useless clutched position to having his fingers spread out and being able to use them instantly. Yes it will hurt him... Yes he will protest. My biggest fear when I go to re-wrap is more of having it too tight. She said if you wrap it and the tendon is not in the right place, his foot will remain the same in a clutched position. Minion is using his leg now. Not perfectly, more like a peg-leg pirate BUT before this he would not use it at all and only hop on his good leg which would in the future cause the good leg to become arthritic.

The Poly Vi Sol was SOOOO hard to find. I went to Kroger (same store as Ralph's in Cali) and Walmart and a few drug stores in Hinesville, Georgia and could not find it so I drove to Richmond Hill, Georgia and went in a pharmacy and they didn't have it....omg. So I went to the Kroger in Richmond Hill and they DID have it. I almost didn't see if because it was on the very bottom shelf and kept in the vitamin section. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Poly-Vi-...2437&wl11=online&wl12=453472386&wl13=&veh=sem

Wow, $20 at Wally and only $9 on their own web site! They don't carry it at my local Wally.

I had to do a lot of searching to finally come up with the nutritional fact and ingredients list, but here it is...

It's interesting to see the differences... For example the PND has amino acids that the PVS doesn't. And come to find out thiamine is B1... what other words don't I know that mean it's actually one of those vitamins??

With the formulations being made specifically for babies verses poultry... I wonder which truly benefits the poultry more? Wish I had the skill to make a side by side comparison chart of these 3 products. AND discern the ingredients that are there but not included in the guaranteed analysis. :barnie

This is the product I bought when I couldn't find the PVS.. I can't find the guaranteed analysis online... though it is on the bottle I can't quite see it, but may try again later to post it for y'all. I do like the product, and see immediate result when I do a drop to the beak on failing bird...

One other thing I wish to note... the PND claim to have a patented uptake process... is that just because it's liquid and therefor will enter the intestines faster than if it was in food or solid form? I feel as though it might just be some advertising hype... just like the fancier bags of feed claim to have probiotics. A lot of the less fancy bags have those SAME probiotics but just don't advertise it on their bag. :pop

All that searching you did for the PVS... the things we will do for our birds... You have gone above and beyond! :highfive:

Did the vet say how much for them to re wrap the tendon if you went in for them to do it? I would definitely have a hard time with it. One thing I will also say is that I have had some very painful and harsh injuries. Physical therapy may not always help... but it has helped me heal and be pain free beyond what I would have thought possible on at least 2 separate occasions! Sometimes I feel it flare back up and do the moves I was taught for yet another bout of fairly long term relief. Doesn't mean the process is easy or pain free, because you push a little more each time until you back to normal. But the good news is that it CAN happen! And I'm a firm believer that PT WILL work fro MANY things. :thumbsup

I didn't ask but I assume it would be the same as the visit just minus the meds and June Bug's fee to be looked at. I am going to TRY to do it myself. I think I can but ONLY because I was shown and I FELT the tendon slip into correct position. Had she not said that stomach curling, rolling "click" it did under my finger was CORRECT, I would have not figured it out on my own. The way I will be able to tell if it is CORRECT will be if Minion's fingers will be open and normal and able to be controlled by Minion. If it is wrong, his little fingers will curl back like it did in the very beginning. Here is a pic of day one, before Minion got chick shoes... you can see Minion's right foot is clubbed and he could not open his fingers/toes

on his own.
