Hey y'all, first post here (with a few more to come). I want a rooster for my flock. Specifically, I want a Barred Rock. So I went to Tractor Supply about a week and a half ago (I think). I saw that they finally were carrying straight run Barred Rocks! I already have 7 hens, and 5 pullets, so I didn't want to get more than one, as I don't need that many egg layers. So I did a quick search online to try and tell the difference visually. Well, a good ol boy came up to me and said that the whole bin was full of Cockerals. He said that he could tell because of the spots on their head, and that only Cockerals get this kind of spot. I was a bit skeptical, as I had just read that pullets can have that spot too (though smaller and more defined). His wife assured me and said that be has been raising chickens his whole life. I took his word for it and grabbed the one with the largest spot on it's head. After further research, I found that there are many more things to look for. I'm a bit worried. So, here I am. What do y'all think it is? A Cockeral, or a Pullets? (About a week and a half to two weeks old)
