Barred rock. Girl or boy?

I think it's the lighting in the picture messing it up. I think it's a pullet.

The little black one is a female at 3 days old. She has a distinct white spot on her head and black legs.

We got barred rock chicks this year, and one of ours looked exackly like yours. They were sexed, and they said ours was a girl. So far she has been acting like a hen....She is afraid of everything, but likes to be held! I hope this helped!

Cockerels are more "gray" looking - here's a cockerel.

Yeah, I would think pullet. As Happy Chooks said, cockerals are more grey. Do you think you could get a picture with better lighting? That might help.

I'll try to get a better pic today. I bought a sexed barred rock pullet yesterday when I was getting some ducks at Southern States, and they look almost identical. I am definitely buying all my chicks there from now on to avoid to stupidity of TSC. lol. They're cheaper anyway and my goats prefer their brand goat feed.

I wonder if the feed store messed up the signing on the chicks. That head spot looks boy. But if you say its darker then the picture and the black on the legs, it could be a Black Sex Link boy. I learned that the hard way. I bought what I thought was 6 barred rocks. Ended up I got 4 male BSL's and one barred rock pullet and one cockrel. The BSL cockrels look just like BR's only they have the black wash down the legs. I really hope you have a pullet, but looks like boy to me.

Black wash on the front of the legs = pullet.
