Hi! So I recently rescued a cockerel, and I was told he was a Plymouth rock. I’m no expert on breed confirmation since I’m not a breeder, but I know that rocks have single combs and my cockerel does not seem to have a single comb.

Looking at pictures of barred rock pullets and cockerels, or other single comb breeds, and it’s pretty obvious they have a single comb ridge right from the get go. My boy Gizmo clearly does not XD his comb looks more like my chantecler’s cushion combs.

What I want to know is, is this normal and will it look like a single comb when he sexually matured and it grows out? Or is he a mutt?

I don’t particularly care if he’s a cross or not, and I wouldn’t be shocked (he’s a bit ugly looking in a cute way), I’m just genuinely curious what he is. If he’s a crossbred, what do you think is the other breed(s)?

here he is:
