2 different birds 2 and a half months old.

Usually, only the males are that light, however, on rare occasion, you will have a pullet that is lighter than normal (my first ever BR hen was that way). It has to do with males having two barring genes while females have only one. Barring some weirdness, those are male.

"Barring some weirdness" :lau:lau lol on that one! great pun

off topic question...if I have a pure BR over "something else"....can I use the "lighter/darker" coloring to determine sex? I have 4 little ones that were hatched in july so they are about 6 weeks...3 are "darker" and 1 is "lighter" (more white barring)....however since they are not full BR I didn't know if this can be used as an indicator of gender. "behavior" would indicate two boys 2 girls. I'll see if I can get pictures today. I have been reading up on "barring" but didn't see this addressed. Thanks :)
