Barred Rock Thread

I have a Barred Rock hen named Pauline...will add pics later...and while she is a good layer, I must say that her personality leaves a bit to be desired. She is the absolute bully of my coop! She pics a buddy and teaches them to attack all other hens! If she is alone with the rooster and you introduce another girl she will partner up and when you try to add another hen she gets absolutely mauled by both! I have had Pauline honestly gash open a pullet's legs and pluck every feather from its head! She is a beast! She pecks my daughter, and if I remove a chicken, any chicken from the coop she immediately comes on the run to attack me AND the chicken I'm removing...be it a hen OR rooster! The only reason she is not cooking right now is because she lays daily and is just so pretty. Sorry if I'm a downer on the thread I just haven't had good luck with the breed myself...

I have 2 that wont let me get near them (Thelma & Louise), but at least they don't come after me. I guess their attitude has a lot to do with how they're handled as chicks? I got mine when they were about 14-16 wks old and have had them for a month or more. I can sit in the coop with them but they keep a wary eye on me & are hard as heck to catch!

I have a barred rock named Bella and she is by far my favorite. She loves to cuddle and have her neck petted. After about 2 minutes of petting she lays her head down on my shoulder and closes her eyes. Ahhhhh its chicken heaven!

Hahaha. I have 4 Barred Rocks and they are 3.5 years old. I raised them from day old chicks. My "Bella" acts the same as dixie&trixie's 'Bella' lol. She loves to cuddle and have her neck gently rubbed and falls to sleep, she will 'talk' to me too. My big 9.5# Barred Rock "Donna," likes to sit in my lap as well and be petted for a very long time but doesnt fall to sleep. The other 2 Barred Rocks would rather hang around my feet expecting treats lol. If I had to start over I would only have Barred Rocks and Black Stars.​

Great photos. I need the name of the thingy by the ear. I see the comb and wattles. Is the round patch the ear? How about the skin patch I haven't named?
