Barred Rocks: Hens or Roos or One of Each?

Both are mixed breed cockerels.
I am also thinking not pure BR. I'm not seeing the lighter color I would expect in a BR cockerel.

My cockerel on top, pullet below. Is this why you say mixed?
 
The OP's birds have messy, uneven barring, especially in the wings and hackles. The second also has muffs and a beard.
 
Thanks for all the feedback (even though it wasn't what I wanted to hear:)! I just assumed they were Barred Rocks based on coloring, but as I said, we don't really know anything yet! I'm curious: any idea what possible mix of breeds this guy is?

Nothing standing out with this guy. He could be a mix of mixes...very pretty!
