Bay Area BYCers!

Cheryl I'm glad you found a cool place to stay. How long do you have to be away from your house? I guess as long as it takes to make sure things are done right is the part that matters. Hope you're keeping an eye on repairs and asking lots of questions.

I had the flu for 3 weeks and just starting to feel kind of OK. I got to the poultry show in Turlock this moring at 8am. Only 23 hours early. DUH! Luckily there was a match show going on, so took two of my grand daughters with me and they wanted to go see the dogs. Figures it was Labs. I have never liked them and all most years of showing and training, I have never even bothered to learn the standards, and still picked out every 1st and 2nd place from the groups we watched. Guess I haven't completely lost my touch after 13 years. LOL

So Makayla and I will have to be going to the show alone tomorrow, since I'll be dropping Khamaria off to my daughter in Tracy in 2 hours. Grandma really blew it. I hadn't realized that neither of the girls had been to a dog show with me. They're 5 and 12, so weren't around for all my Rotties and the constant shows, but they really liked the match. Of course, Khamaria being one of my dog kids, she wants to show now. Her mom did JR Showmanship when she was her age with some of the Rotties, so when I figure out my situation, I think I'll be scoping out Germany or Italy for another import to show. Depends on if I ever get some of my life back.

I came home to 2 pips, one B/B/S/ AM and one FBCM from one of my Davis girls. One little Black (I think, but still wet) AM out already. Hope I get them all to hatch. I also have some of my Game x Marans (bred them for eggs and meat) in there and a couple of Cubalayas. No pips yet, but today is hatch day and they're right on time, so heres hoping.

I'm supposed to take a processing class next month. We'll see how that goes. LOL

Anna what's the cost of this class? My husband knew how to process pigs and I used to help somewhat when I was bartending. We would have a pig roast every Super Bowl, and they started with a live pig. There were three guys that mainly did the work though. Was thinking I might have to learn how to do this too.

Thanks everyone! Wow wasn't that storm unbelievable last night, we are staying in a cottage on the water in Sandy Beach,Vallejo and it really was amazing watching the lightening over the water. And the hail!! wow what a show....

Worried about my flock in Lafayette, I get there daily but I'm afraid to see what happened to the tarps and runs after last night...

I'm going to visit "the nursery" at Dyann's house today with all my baby chicks and to meet a few people for chick-pickup!

We hatched a ton of Blue Birchen Marans, Salmon Faverolles & some black mottle javas!! Also hatching silver pencilled plymouth rocks for myself..

I also still have a couple welsummers available! Boy I miss being with my chickens...won't be back in the house till probably end of June!

cheryl, I still need to figure out how to pick up my fav chicks, do you know anyone coming and going to the bay area from the valley? I had a friend of DDs whose BF goes to Cal, but that fell through, any ideas? I want them so bad!!

I'll be going to Berkeley to pick up chicks when the order comes from John Blehm. I have to also go to Brentwood right after that and I'll be there a while, but then I'll be coming back to Modesto if that helps.

Will be looking for two hens in the next month or so:

I'm in Palo Alto and I'll be looking for two new hens. One white, one black. I have reasons for these particular types---called grandchildren.

I don't want new baby chicks as I can't risk them being roosters and have to go through the heart ache of becoming very attached and then finding safe places for
them to live. Been through that twice and it always is a traumatic experience.

So, I'm OK with a hen at least three months or somewhere in that range when I'm sure of the gender.

I'm waiting until this rain calms down, so somewhere in Aprilish, if anyone out there in the Bay Area will have two girls for sale--again one white--any bread, Leghorn OK, and one black, any breed, let me know.

Thanks..

Geri in Palo Alto

Lil' Joe is so wet he looks like a frizzle! What a bummer, gross day. Should have ducks instead of chickens for this crummy weather...

Mocha, my broody Barnie girl is still trying to hatch that golf ball. DSO is going to bring me some fertile eggs from his Ameraucana X RIR to give her something to do.

I've been too busy to get hatching eggs to test the new bator. I guess I will just have Trisha send the Barnevelder eggs and hope for the best.

Cheryl, glad to hear you are settling into your new temp housing. Your babies are beautiful! I saw them when I was at Dyann's last weekend.
