Megan I'm glad you like them. Hope you do really well with your plans and that the older pair start working for you in the mean time.
Been a busy few days.
Thought I'd give an update to the roo mammas that helped me with some new blood after losing my boys.
I do have a problem though. My little Lav AM roo isn't fitting in. I don't have a separate place for him, so I had to grab him up and he's in a large dog crate right now. At least I am making friends with him. He ate out of my hand today. I think he just tried a little too hard to make nice with the girls and they have a crush on my Olive Egger roo Little Jovi.
My new FBCM roo is walking the yard. I accidently called him Pierre today and then remembered it wasn't him. This one is a nice guy though. A little stand offish like JR was, but he's coming around. He's sweet to the girls like Pierre was though. Yesterday my daughter was tossing them fruit and when she tossed it his way, he'd start for it and a hen would run and grab it. My daughter told me I had a dumb rooster and I said he was being polite to his girls. She walked over as close as she could without chasing him off and tossed him more. He grabbed it up and ran over to one of the hens that kept getting knocked back by the others and gave it to her. My daughter says "awwwwww he gave it to the hen." I told her thats what roosters do. So he's a keeper. I'm so happy with the way he takes care of the girls and he's pretty mellow for not being a pet and coming into a hecktic place and just fitting in. Oh, He was frustrated the first night. The girls had him crowed and he just paced back and forth to find his own roosting spot. I picked him up and he wasn't too happy until I showed him where to go, so now if I'm out there at night I walk up and give him a quick pet and he just sits and takes it.
My new Silkie?? Oh what a sweety. He doesn't just walk on my girls when I feed them and I'm no longer being flogged by a pip squeek. I like him, the girls like him, so I'm happy. I already put him in with the girls. I actually stuck him in and grabbed Bratagin out and the tension in that pen eased up within minutes. Don't think they'll miss him.
I took my other roo to the auction today. Didn't stay and thought about waiting until next week since there was only about 20 people there. Even the attached flea market was practically empty. I know he sold, but didn't even go back over. I've already seen $.35 checks from that place, so I figure I'd use more gas than it was worth. Wish I had had money today. They had a trio of Silkie hens I could have put in with these. Oh well. There was another roo next to the 3 and Bratagin looked just like him. To bad the guy had me put him way over by the layers. Oh and this guy asked me if he was a fighting rooster! ???????????????? Really? I had to add Silkie next to the discription.
Been out cleaning rabbit and chicken areas all day. Tomorrow I need to do the quail again. They sure do mess things up fast. I clean up after them more than anything else around here. They sure better start paying off.
Oh I had a hatch this weekend. Only 4, but I thought since I had a pink egg in there that didn't have a breed on it, I might have gotten a SPPR. Nope, dark feathered legs, so then I figured it was my EEs and Peirre's. Then I looked closer cause he was so poofy and just looked different. I lost the older black roo a couple of weeks ago and I had replaced him with Bratagin. I have a black silkie chick! Been so long I forgot what they looked like. Will probably be a roo, but my husband actually liked my black roo and told me not to sell him when I was thinning out Silkies last year.
OK I had the back door open all day and I'm grabbing a fly swatter. What was I thinking??
