Hello, just a general question. Treating a (non-contagious) sinus infection in a turkey with both Excede and Baytril (did a culture, Excede covers 2 of the isolates while Baytril covers the 3rd. We had a vet tech use the dosage recommendation on poultry dvm to give us a number on the excede which is .8ml IM every 3 days), and I just ran out of my Baytril 10% that I bought off allbirdproducts.
I just ordered some Enrofloxacin 10% from jeddsbirdsupplies (was cheaper and seems to be a bigger bottle?), but for now until it comes in I had to borrow some Baytril from the veterinary place I work at. They only had Enroflox 100 (swine/cattle).
I've read this might be the same as the Baytril 10% you can get for birds, is this correct? Which would mean the dosage is still 0.05ml (edit: per pound, oops) twice a day, correct?
If not then what is the correct dosage per pound for the Enroflox 100?

Thanks!

The recommended oral dose is 10-15 mg/kg twice a day.

10 mg/kg math for 11 pounds - twice a day
10 / 2.2 x 10 / 100 = 0.45 ml (round up to 0.5 ml, 1/2 ml)

15 mg/kg math for 11 pounds - twice a day
10 / 2.2 x 15 / 100 = 0.68 ml (round up to 0.7 ml, 7/10 ml)

Does that help?

It does, thank you very much! She was getting .55ml of the Baytril 10% so I might do the .7ml dose just to see if I can get this squashed. And it's the 0.7 twice a day, not in total for 1 day? This is just for the Enroflox 100 correct?

If I got the baytril 10% again would I go back to the 0.05ml per pound twice a day (which was .55ml)?

Sorry for all the questions, I am storing this all away in my own journal area so I don't have to ask again later lol.

Baytril 100 and Enroflox 100 are the exact same thing. Both are 100 mg/ml enrofloxacin.

For dosing, the math is always the same.

Weight of bird in pounds, divide by 2.2 (this converts to kg), time the desired dose (listed as mg/kg), divide by the number of mg in one ml (mg/ml).

Example:
Excede comes in 200 mg/ml & 100 mg/ml
Poultry DVM says the dose is 10-20 mg/kg

Excede 200 mg/ml dose at 20 mg/kg
1 / 2.2 x 20 / 200 = 0.045 ml per pound of body weight.

Excede 100 mg/ml dose at 10 mg/kg
1 / 2.2 x 10 / 100 = 0.045 ml per pound of body weight.

Ohhh okay I see! This is so helpful thank you haha. I've tried to figure out how to break these things down but my brain never understands. (writes this all down)

I believe we have the blue bottle of excede at work, so the 200mg. I've been doing 0.8ml IM every 3 days which was the recommendations of one of our vet techs (Note: she doesnt work on birds, only dogs and cats. She was using the dosing info I gave her from that exact article from poultry dvm^). Doing the 0.045ml x 11lbs on this, it seems like I would be giving her 0.495ml? Is that that would I would give her if I was giving it daily? Or is that the dose she should be getting every 3 to 5 days?

Also I noticed it says q3-5 days so I assume that means every 3 to 5 days right?
