The new coop to be.

Are you satisfied the timber and workmanship on the new coop? It looks good in the photo.
Its way better than the chicken coop I bought last week. Les flimsy, more solid.

But there are lots of ‘cracks’ in between the slats too. It will be very necessary to paint it wit DE inside the coop every year.

It’s not meant for chickens and has no roost, no poop tray or a nestbox. But since there are already 2 nestboxes in the old coop and (a temporary) one in the second run there is no need for a nestbox. For the time being I want to put the coop on a layer of coarse sand and scoop the poop out. Only need to add 2 roosts for now. I decided to buy 2 sets of oil containers to prevent red mites to walk from the coop to the hens that roost (and vice versa).

For security Im not sure what to do yet. I can add hwc to block the openings and add another auto-pop-door so they will be very safe in the coop. Or I could replace the chicken guard. The run is quite safe. Since the fox found a way in 3 years ago , I secured it a bit more. And last year with all the chicks in the run nothing happened. For the time being I hope its okay as it is.

Well, a kid's cubby house was always going to need some adaptations before being for chickens. But I think it's a very good starting point and no doubt you will make it excellent before long.

I was looking for info about sexing Amrocks at a young age and posted a question in the thread I found with good information about Amrocks / Plymouth rocks from @BaakNL.

I have 3 bantam Amrock chicks and was wondering if the 2 with the white striping in the wings are boys and the one with grey (darker) striping is a girl.
Auto sexing right after hatch was not clear at all. This seems often to be the case with the bantams.

12 day old chicks wings stripe pattern of presumed boys. The black hen in the picture one of the mama’s who hatched them (not related).

The darker chick. Presumably their sister. #2

Older photo the first one that hatched with his foster mother. #3

And the two chicks that hatched a day later. #4
If my assumption is right this must be a boy and a girl.
The other two eggs didn’t make it 😔.

Today I had a respons from my add on the Dutch Craigslist (Marktplaats) .
A nice lady and her husband want to buy my Tintin. They had a casualty with a predator when their young cockerel was sleeping outside.
They live to add a young male Sulmtaler to their flock with 2 young pullets and 2 adult hens. He can free range there too. 😍

I made a pick up appointment for tomorrow.

I don't know about Amrocks, but my Dominiques had similar markings as chicks. The boys are lighter in color.

That's great news! I'm so happy for him.
