Be careful feeding pumpkins

No hill to worry about, our part of Texas is pretty flat BUT I have found it is pretty dangerous trying to cut open a pumpkin in front of the girls. They try their best to get to the guts and seeds as I'm trying to get the knife into the thing and slice it open...have so much help I'm having to push them aside to keep from cutting one of them!

DH called yesterday...he scored big time. He took 2 dozen eggs to the guy who gave him an onion sack full of pie pumpkins last week. The guy told him he was so glad he came back, that he failed to get DH's phone # and his boss had just called and told him to start giving away the pumpkins to get rid of them. They loaded a pallet full of pumpkins on his pickup...he said he could have gotten more but he had picked up a load of laminated flooring from an ad on Craig's List. Told him he could check next week.

When I smashed them, I have to be careful that the chickens are not in the spot the pumpkins are going to be crash landed. It woudl be awful if a chicken get killed......

I use a hatchet on pumpkins. Just be sure there are no birds around. Better yet, go where there are no birds...

I opened this thinking oh crap i just gave them pumpkin yesterday.... boy did i get a big laugh!!!!

But I don't bust the pumpkins anymore.... I cook them down and freeze the good stuff and roast the seeds, chickens get the "guts"
