Bear Flipped over coop

I would look up the laws in your state. I believe in Texas you can shoot it if it's a harm to you or your livestock, if I remember correctly. Call your local DNR office and see the guidelines because I'm sure it would be the same in your state too! Here in SC you can shoot whatever (even dogs) if it's harming livestock. Just not sure if chickens are in the "livestock" category or not.

If a bear starts tearing into my coop, it will be the last coop it ever see's. PERIOD...
I have one getting into my dumpster every so often. Makes a mess, but no threat to my family or chickens. My yard is fenced in, and 3 dogs that patrol the border, but not a night. Any predator that breaches that fence if I'm around is not going to be happy.

I've checked. The laws are very vague. It's the same here but the problem is the location of the coop. Theres no safe shot. And I'm not shooting a .300 Win Mag in the dark with houses within a half mile. Its not worth the risk to human life.

That's horrible. We have bear here too. I put the coop/run inside a 6 foot tall chicken wired fence with 4×4 posts inside the back end of my garden. And then the whole garden and coop/run is surrounded by an electric fence. The back part I planted corn and clover. Once it's tall enough I'll open it up for the chickens. They can eat the clover and use the the corn stalks for shelter.
